net.LIBRARY Overview & Goals

net.LIBRARY is a platform dedicated to building a library of universal PDF format documents featuring creative works by new media artists, poets, and writers. Participation is open to all and can take various forms:

.1 Contribute a Document: You must be the copyright holder to do this.
.2 Host a Library Branch: Host documents at your website.
.3 Link a Library Branch: Link to library branches.
.4 Contribute, Host, Link: You can do it all.

Goals for the library: to store, access, and distribute creative works by new media artists, poets, and writers. But net.LIBRARY aspires to something more; to establish a network of library branch sites across the internet to amplify the presence and distribution of documents. Thus the "net." in net.LIBRARY.

Contributors are encouraged, but not obligated, to host a library branch at their own website. Download net.LIBRARY core files (core.zip), available for free as a "starter kit" for new branches. These files are offered AS-IS, without warranty.

net.LIBRARY Creative Commons Licenses

net.LIBRARY core files (index.html, about.html, and library.css): CC0 1.0
This license enables reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, with no conditions.

net.LIBRARY document files (all PDFs): CC BY-ND 4.0
This license enables reusers to copy and distribute the material in any medium or format in unadapted form only, and only so long as attribution is given to the creator. The license allows for commercial use. CC BY-ND includes the following elements: BY: credit must be given to the creator, and ND: no derivatives or adaptations of the work are permitted.

Core files can be reused to create your own net.LIBRARY branch, either partially or entirely, and modified as needed. Document files must remain intact and can be reused at other library branches. Any additional documents added to a branch must adhere to the CC BY-ND license. All documents in the library are available in PDF format.

net.LIBRARY Document Records

1) Start with a double quote (").
2) End with a double quote and comma (",).
3) Consist of four pieces of information separated by a single pipe character (|):

.1 "author last name, first" is required for author introduction only
.2 "document filename.pdf" (assumes documents are in a folder named "pdf")
.3 "document title" is the title of the document
  .4 "document notes" (optional)

4) Records are listed alphabetically by "author last name, first".
5) Authors with multiple documents start subsequent records with a single pipe character (|).
6) If "document notes" are left blank, the last character will be a single pipe character (|).
7) Separation between authors is an empty document record (" ").

Document record examples (spaces added around pipe characters for illustration only):

"author last name, first | document filename.pdf | document title | document notes",
  " ",
"author last name, first | document filename 1.pdf | document title 1 | document notes 1",
  "| document filename 2.pdf | document title 2 | document notes 2",
  "| document filename 3.pdf | document title 3 | document notes 3",
  " ",
"author last name, first | document filename.pdf | document title |",
  ...

net.LIBRARY Core Files and Documents

Core files are located in the "library" folder, see the example and note below. All documents are stored in a folder named "pdf", which folder also is located in the "library" folder, for example:

  https://www.yoursite.com/library/pdf/

Note: "library" can be any name, but if you change "pdf", you must edit the net.LIBRARY core file "index.html" accordingly.
